The UP Self-Financed Independent Schools (Fee Regulation) Act, 2018
Uttar Pradesh regulates private school fees by statute. The Act covers self-financed schools recognised by UP Board, Basic Shiksha Parishad, CBSE, ICSE, IB or IGCSE where the total possible fee for a student exceeds twenty thousand rupees a year. District fee regulatory committees review proposed increases, capitation fees are prohibited, and schools must disclose their fee structure and finances. A 2020 amendment replaced the earlier appellate authority with a Divisional Self-Financed Independent School Appellate Authority. In practice this means a UP school needs a defensible, auditable record of every head of fee it charges and every revision it makes.
